The giving of flowers in our society has become a fascinatingly ubiquitous gesture. It can be an act of love, compassion, condolence, contrition or celebration. The flowers photographed in this series have all been taken from bouquets gifted for one of these purposes, just before they are eventually and inevitably thrown away. As they begin to wilt, drop petals and grow mould, the flowers emanate strongly anthropomorphic qualities in both their posture and predicament; holding on with a dignified grace, as their end comes quietly and quickly to meet them.
